  3. I had high hopes for the Lord of the Rings too, until I saw Arwen ride out instead of Glorfindel. It really grinds my gears when screenwriters change major plot details, and I pray they don't see fit to "revise" the Hobbit.

Dwarf-tossing indeed.... I wonder how close Helm's Deep came to being defended by Samurai Jack and Richard Sharpe? The visuals are wonderful, anyway, so here's hoping.....

  4. You raise an interesting point, #2501. I think there are many cases where works of literature need to be altered when they are translated to the screen. Often a good reason is the profusion of characters in books. A huge cast can be tricky for film (for both financial and story telling reasons) and I think screen writers rightly combine or chop characters if they add no value. A good example of this is Dracula. The book has a huge cast and many locations (partly to support and give credibility to its supposedly documentary nature). This is just confusing on film and the Hammer version is a great example of successful streamlining.

  5. Thanks for posting. I really enjoyed the trailer. I can't see the film adaptation being anything other than sensitive to the original book. I like what they've done with Thorin and, for me, yes I'm looking forward to next Christmas!
